The Philadelphia Business Journal honored the Independence Blue Cross Foundation (Foundation) for its partnership with the Justice Center for Research at Penn State University at its annual Faces of Philanthropy event on April 12 at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia. Foundation Manager Heather Major accepted the award, which highlighted 20 philanthropic initiatives making a difference in lives across Greater Philadelphia.

The Foundation was recognized for its ongoing efforts to address the opioid epidemic in southeastern Pennsylvania. Through this partnership with Penn State, the Foundation is set to launch a multi-media public awareness campaign that will share stories of addiction and recovery to reduce the stigma often associated with opioid abuse. The initiative will support the development and launch of a campaign to tell real stories of recovery, giving a face and voice to those affected by the crisis.
