Lorina Marshall-Blake, president of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation (Foundation) and vice president of Community Affairs at Independence Blue Cross, delivered the virtual keynote address at Harcum College’s commencement on May 29, 2020. In addition, she received an honorary Doctorate of Health Care Innovation degree from the college’s president Dr. Jon Jay DeTemple and Harcum’s Board of Trustees. The honorary degree is one of the school’s highest forms of recognition.

The Foundation provides scholarship grants to advance the education of Harcum College undergraduate nursing students. The Foundation also funded the Cohen Dental Center, operated by Harcum College, which provides low-cost preventative dental care.

Since 2004, Independence Blue Cross and its Foundation have invested more than $60 million in the education and professional development of nurses and  supported the region’s community health centers.
