In advance of National Health Center Week (August 7-13), the Independence Blue Cross Foundation (Foundation) hosted its annual Blue Safety Net Partner Meeting, bringing together diverse leadership from health centers and mobile clinics across southeastern Pennsylvania.
This year’s meeting included a robust panel discussion about racial disparities as it relates to cancer screenings, especially among minority populations where there has been a significant decline in screenings post-pandemic. Participants included Kate Mastalski, Senior Manager, Cancer Support Strategic Partnerships, American Cancer Society; Sara Lomax-Reese, President and CEO, WURD; and Evelyn González, Senior Director, Community, Fox Chase Cancer Center.
Since 2011, the Foundation’s signature Blue Safety Net program has awarded more than $30 million to community health centers that provide free and affordable care to diverse communities in southeastern Pennsylvania.
