CPR Ready kicks off CPR Awareness Week with free Hands-Only CPR Training at Independence Visitor Center

CPR Ready

People walking by the Independence Visitor Center on June 1 received a free, quick training in Hands-Only CPR, which can double or even triple a person’s survival rate.

CPR Ready kicked off CPR and AED Awareness week (June 1 – 7) with a free, public Hands-Only CPR training at the Independence Visitor Center on June 1. The event was hosted by CPR Ready partners, the American Heart Association and Penn Medicine’s Mobile CPR Project, which is funded by the Independence Blue Cross Foundation.

Dozens of Visitor Center guests learned how to perform Hands-Only CPR, and practiced chest compressions to the beat of “Staying Alive” by the Bee Gees.

In Philadelphia, the survival rate for those who experience sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital is only 6 percent. Performing CPR immediately can double or even triple a person’s survival rate. CPR Ready is a local initiative dedicated to improving those outcomes by significantly increasing the number of people in the region who are knowledgeable about and willing to perform bystander Hands-Only CPR and who know how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). CPR Ready expects to train over 500 people during CPR and AED Awareness week.

Visit the Mobile CPR Project’s website for a schedule of free trainings.
