Heather Falck Major, executive director of the Independence Blue Cross Foundation, participated in a panel discussion as a thought leader on “How Payers Can Lead the Charge on Health Equity,” during the Fierce Health Payer Summit. The event attracted more than 300 attendees and over 30 speakers for a two-day event in Austin, Texas.

Major underscored the value of collaboration to address health equity challenges, emphasizing the impact of strategic partnerships. She highlighted the IBX Foundation’s school-based mental health initiative in partnership with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Girard College that combines tele-behavioral health services with on-site, school-based support, increasing access to mental health services for youth impacted by trauma. She also discussed the IBX Foundation’s unprecedented work to support nonprofit health centers pursue the National Committee for Quality Assurance’s (NCQA) Health Equity Accreditation, which provides a framework for health centers to advance equity in organizational culture, operational process and delivery of care.

“It’s important to maintain engagement. Our work is supporting amazing nonprofits and partners in the Greater Philadelphia region, ensuring that if they have an idea or we have shared interests, we collaborate to make that a reality,” Major said at the conference. “They know the needs of their community members and we are there to support initiatives that enhance lives.”
