The IBC Foundation 2023 Nursing Partner Meeting

During National Nurses Week (May 6-12), the Independence Blue Cross Foundation (IBC Foundation) convened the Deans and Directors of regional nursing schools for expert led discussions around the connection between military veterans and nurses in serving country and community.

Dr. Rita Ferrari D’Aoust, PhD, RN, Associate Professor at Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, shared the important role education plays in helping veterans as they transition back into local communities post combat. Wesley Wilson, Director of the Military and Veterans Resource Center at Georgetown University, offered best practices for maximizing the financial resources through the Yellow Ribbon Program available to veterans who are pursuing a nursing degree.

In that same week, Senior Foundation Program Specialist Marlene Harmon-Perkins at the IBC Foundation attended the Community College of Philadelphia’s (CCP) annual Scholarship Luncheon. This event celebrated CCP nursing students, including three Foundation Nurses for Tomorrow® Scholarship recipients, who will graduate this spring.
